Aloe, gorgeous!

A Lifestyle

My current thoughts & musings

Aloe, gorgeous!

Hannah Bianca

Last week, I came across a hidden gem right in the strip of Bernal Heights: Succulence. This small plant-based shop has a wide range of trinkets and things that will make you want to come back for more! The temporary home of hand-made jewelry, crystals and stones, books, stationery, different kinds of accessories, and at least two dozen other thing; there is more to the store than meets the eye (or name in this matter). One thing is certain: the store lives up to its name–it is very succulent! I know, I know, cue in the endless rolling of eyes with these horrific puns and lame play on words.

Upon arriving, the place is quite hidden on the outside yet the storefront sign and display are truly flattering. The very first thing you notice is how every single table and stand is filled yet carefully placed–it's as if the people who run the shop knows everyone comes in to feed their social media addictions and find the perfect 'gram! There are literally so many things that catch your eye, especially if anything shiny or sparkly gets you instantly. I fell in love with a bunch of stones, especially the pyrite there. Towards the back is the entrance to their small nursery, containing all the succulents and artsy photos one could admire.

Ah yes, the infamous "U SEXY" succulent frame structure hangs from the wall on the left of the nursery. With hundreds of succulents, frames, and containers to choose from, any plant-lover could spend hours here. The store employee was incredibly helpful, explaining the in-store activities we could partake in, informing us about the plants and their lifestyles, along with finding the perfect succulent(s) to take home. The way the plants are organized (I assume by size and style from my visit) are truly beautiful. There's an island in the middle of the area while plants cover the walls from floor to roof. Along with their typical 2-inch and 4-inch bright/low light succulents, the store offers many rare and unique succulents all starting at reasonable prices.

The trip was a success, as I left the shop with a few small succulents that I'll be leaving on my window sills. It's a shame not a lot of people know about this store; I'd love to come back here since it's nestled in the neighborhood areas of the city. More and more people should be introduced to what "succulence" is. Okay, I'll end it there. No more puns. I'm sorry I put you all through this.
